How we count
Every figure is recomputed daily from the same database the API serves, and every split on this page adds up to its total.
What counts as a company?+
An SEC-reporting company we serve financial statements for, classified in SFIC, our own sector and industry taxonomy. A company is operating while it holds at least one active listing, on an exchange or OTC. Every other company is delisted and stays in the API with its full history.
What counts as an ETF, mutual fund or closed-end fund?+
A currently listed fund whose holdings we have, either from an N-PORT filed in the last six months or, for ETFs, from the issuer's daily website holdings. Funds that registered but never launched, and trusts that publish no holdings, are not counted. Each fund is counted once: as an ETF, a mutual fund or a closed-end fund.
How are sectors and industries assigned?+
With SFIC, the StockFit Industry Classification: 11 sectors, each split into industries fine enough for real peer groups. Companies SFIC has not classified yet are left out of the company counts.
What is a data point?+
One row of filing-sourced data: a financial statement fact, a dimensional (segment) fact, an insider transaction, a 13F position, an N-PORT fund holding or a current 5% ownership position. The headline number is the sum of those six.
Why is the latest 13F quarter not the current quarter?+
Managers have 45 days after a quarter ends to file their 13F. We show the newest quarter whose filing window has closed, so its manager count is complete.
How often is this page updated?+
We ingest SEC EDGAR filings every day. The figures on this page are recomputed once a day from the same database the API serves.
